VASCO: Shop auctioning procedure sparked a contention among the panch members of Cortalim panchayat in the special body after few among the panch members questioned some clauses of market policy and demanded to call for a gram sabha before proceeding with the auction in market complex.
Few opposition members demanded to show the profit earned and the money spent till date since the market complex was made operational months ago. They have demanded changes in a few clauses, which can allow every villager part of the shop auctioning.
Cortalim Sarpanch Senia Pereira said that this special meeting was called to explain and clear doubts about by laws given by the government for allotting shops from the market complex.
She also explained that they will have a gram sabha meeting so that all villagers understand the rules for the auctioning procedures of the shops. She was surprised over a few panch members unawareness on the market policy despite it is in the public domain.
Former deputy sarpanch Raymond Desa has raised a question over the clause where a family member is barred from owning a shop in any other member from the family owns one. Desa has demanded to change this clause. “Everyone should be allowed to participate in the auction,” he said. This market complex was opened despite the matter being in the court. Desa also demanded to know the revenue generated and expenditure incurred since the market complex was operational.
