MARGAO: Residents of Marlem-Borda on Monday took to the streets protesting against the plying of trucks transporting mud to Moti dongor.
The residents the trucks and demanded action against the vehicle owners. They claimed that transportation of mud for nearly a month now has been causing dust pollution in the locality, besides posing danger to the children and residents of the locality.
A posse of Margao police rushed to the spot as a precautionary measure to avert a law and order situation.
The incident occurred in the morning when the agitated residents finally descended on the road after silently protesting over the transportation on the narrow road for nearly a month now.
Avinash Tavares told the media that the authorities should find out whether the mud dumped at Moti Dongor is as per the rules in force. “We have found that mud is dumped in a heap at Moti Dongor hillock. We are afraid whether any permission is taken to dump the mud there”, he said.
Another resident Manuel Oliveira demanded to know how the authorities and the elected representatives have allowed the trucks to ply on the narrow Marlem road when it is posing danger to the residents.
Marlem ward Councillor Carmina Rodrigues also rushed to the site and maintained that she had warned the contractor not to test the patience of the residents,
who were agitated over the transportation through their locality.
