Mashem, Galgibaga residents allege danger of iron plates

Say the centring material on ‘Parrikar Seaside Link’ may fall down and kill pedestrians

CANACONA: The controversy over the construction of char Rasta-Mashem doesn’t seem to die down even after the link was thrown opened two months ago; the latest allegations coming from local residents of Mashem and Galgibaga that the negligence of the PWD National Highways officials might cost someone his or her life if the iron plates used as centring material come down without warning.
There are more than 10 iron centring/shuttering plates of dimension 90X60cm weighing 15kg attached to the concrete of the bridge 10mt overhead, and if any one of them falls on the unsuspecting pedestrians it surely will lead to certain death complained a local resident from Mashem.
Manoj Prabugaonkar another local resident of Mashem, who crosses under this raised portion of the Mashem-Galgibaga bridge, speaking to Herald said that there is absolute lack of application of mind from the local PWD officials who are responsible for construction of this 7.4km bypass road which was nomenclatured as Manohar Parrikar Seaside link when it was inaugurated recently.
“The bypass is commissioned two months ago and it is beyond the imagination of the locals on how the NH66 authorities have not seen the shuttering plates which were supposed to be removed immediately after laying the concrete decks on the piers”.
