PANJIM: A massive fire engulfed a Taleigao field, on Friday afternoon, with thick smoke and residue affecting residents of the nearby apartments. Motorists found it extremely difficult to navigate the path, due to the poor visibility.
On Friday afternoon, a massive fire engulfed a field at Taleigao and locals immediately called the Fire and Emergency Services to douse the fire.
The fire services had a hard time as the flames were so enormous that the water from two fire trucks was unable to bring the situation under control. Around 90% of the fire was extinguished and a third truck was summoned. The locals suspected that someone in the field ignited the fire causing it to spread rapidly.
Since the fire was not completely extinguished, it started emitting thick smoke along with ashes. The wind blew the thick smoke towards the apartment blocks nearby. Nearby residents complained about the smoke and residue entering their houses resulting in breathing problems.
Not only the residents but commuters traversing that lane complained about poor vision as the smoke covered the entire area. Police reached the spot to investigate the matter and also helped in directing the traffic to avoid any mishaps.
