PANJIM: The Goa Police are groping in the dark to trace the killers of Vilas Mhetar even after three days of the gruesome incident. The special teams, formed to crack the case, have also failed to establish the motive of the murder.
Mhetar was burnt to death by two unidentified men, who intercepted the victim at Torda. Day after the incident, the North Goa Police roped-in officers and its staff from Panjim, Calangute, Bicholim, Saligao and Pernem police stations besides teams from Crime Branch to assist the Porvorim police to crack the case.
Despite massive manhunt and questioning of suspects, the investigation teams have been unable to track down the accused or find the motive behind the brutal killing.
As per initial reports, the victim had been reporting about alleged illegalities by a builder to the local panchayat and had also succeeded to stall some of these projects. While a case of murder is registered, police higher ups say, they are investigating all the angles.
