PONDA: The Masterplan for Ponda town will be finalised by the end of January, said Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) Chairperson Ritesh Naik on Wednesday. After a council meeting, Naik said that the Draft Masterplan for Ponda will shortly be made available for the public, to elicit suggestions and feedback from citizens, councillors and other resource people.
He added that a Mumbai-based consultant agency is preparing the Masterplan and they have been instructed to address the problems of traffic congestion at Almeida High School, Upper Bazaar and other areas as Ponda is a congested town facing a land shortage problem. He added that all the infrastructure necessary for the development of the town, including parking spaces and the beautification of the nullah, will be covered by the Masterplan.
Naik said that utilising the funds of the State and Central governments under various heads including the fifteenth finance commission would be considered to fund the facilities proposed in the masterplan. He added that the PMC passed a resolution to shift all 16 flat owners residing in the 50- year-old PMC-owned building located near Chodankar Hospital to a safer place. The PMC has planned to demolish the old building and construct a commercial building instead.
