VASCO: Urban Development Minister Milind Naik inaugurated the new Material Recovery Facility (MRF) at Sada, Vasco on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Saturday.
The Swachhta Kendra (Material Recovery Facility) will process and manage upto 200 MT of dry waste on a monthly basis.
DMA Gurudas Pilarnekar, DMA secretary Tariq Thomas, CMD B B Nagpal, Damodar Kaskar, Shraddha Mahale and others were present.
The Kendra is a part of the ongoing Project Prithvi, under the umbrella of United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Plastic Waste Management Programme and Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Private Limited (HCCB) in partnership with Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC).
After inaugurating the facility, the Urban Development Minister said, “Garbage segregation at the source by each household is very important to tackle dry waste problem. The MRF facility is one of the best facilities and to make it successful everyone should segregate and dispose waste properly.”
He said, “Initially, the waste treatment facility was set up and much of the legacy waste and piled up dry waste was cleared in between. However, due to the pandemic many cement factories where the baled product was sent were shut and hence some quantity of the piled up waste remained. Now, the entire dry waste will be segregated at the new facility.”
Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) CMD B B Nagpal said, “I am proud to be a part of the Swachh Bharat 2.0 programme and GSL has participated in small way under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).”
He said, “GSL will provide safety gears to the workers deployed at the MRF. I thank the Urban Development Minister and the concerned authorities for taking up such initiative for the betterment of the society.”
Earlier, Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson Damodar Kaskar said, “This facility was the need of the hour and I thank the minister for the facility which will clear the waste.”
