Matka websites with false ‘leaked’ results con players

Websites have mobile numbers to call to get access to bank accounts to deposit advance amounts for ‘assured wins’; Goa Police unable to crack down as servers located abroad; Duped players don’t report to cops fearing action

PANJIM: The trend of checking matka results online is catching up among habitual gamblers but Goa Police has failed to crack down on these websites, even as the gamblers hardly realize that the lucrative offers flashed online are merely an attempt to con them.
Popular matka websites – www.sattamatkai.net and www.matkaguru.in, are fearlessly operating, and making tall claims of leaking the results 30-40 minutes prior to the actual declaration of the winning numbers. The websites’ operatives vouch of having close links with the matka top bosses sitting abroad.
In an attempt to win the confidence of the gamblers, one of these sites has cited the example of an unidentified Goan gambler who it asserts has won Rs 2.10 lakh through the leaked result.
“Aaj se ek saal pahle hamare pass leak result aata tha(,) tab Goa ke ek aadmi ne leak result lekar (Rs) 2 lakh 10 hazaar rupaye kamaya tha. Uske bad matka office k manager se hamara sampark toot gaya tha(.) To ab phir humne unse baat karli hai…” www.matkaguru.in claims.
In the so-called ‘never fail game’, the websites openly display phone numbers which are the contacts to pay advance deposit – varying from Rs 3,550 to Rs 8,000 and above – for “assured win” and “gaining access to leak results”.
In one example, one Deva Thakur’s mobile number 09589**1*9* has been displayed to get the bank account number where the amount needs to be deposited while sattamatkai.net, besides revealing 087***5**74 and 08***99**68* contact numbers has also introduced log-in system.
The matkaguru site speaks about leaking results thrice a week through its direct link with the matka head office. “Yeh appke liye ek golden offer hi hai…Agar aapko 30 minute pahle Kalyan aur Mumbai ka leak result chahiye to uske liye appko Rs 8000 advance dena hoga,” it adds.
In its competition, sattamatkai.com releases weekly patti chart for Kalyan, Milan, Main Rajdhani and other types of matka. The recent one shows the chart for April 20-26, 2015.
Moreover, the websites have created separate categories such as paid game for VIP and VVIP members. Senior police officers conceded the menace has been rampant while also restricting their jurisdiction has been a major drawback.
Arguably, the Goa Police has hitherto failed to crackdown on the online gambling even as some petty cases are booked and big-fish remain untouched.
“We are tracking these websites… The servers are located outside the country… We will keep a track,” was all that Crime Branch Superintendent of Police, Karthik Kashyap said.
Falling prey to it, the gamblers heavily relying on a variety of websites, are being cheated not knowing modus operandi of the culprits. The ‘lucky digits’ hinted on its home page claiming it being guaranteed winning number(s) too have no authenticity.
Another officer attached with the special branch disclosed that several matka players have been cheated but fail to report the matter to the police, “because they fear of police action on them for playing the illegal game.”
