PONDA: Disclosing plans to spend Rs 6 crore to expand Matruchhaya premises for providing housing facilities to around 75 orphan girls, Shrinivas Dempo, president of Matruchhaya, a home for orphans at Dhavali, has sought people’s contribution in this regard.
Dempo said “The home for orphans, homeless and destitute children was established on Children’s Day in 1976. Now, at present there is need to house more girls at Matruchhaya. Providing a home with decent facilities to around 75 girls is not possible in current premises. Hence, the Trust is working towards expanding the premises. To achieve this goal, the Trust has acquired around 4500 sq mts of land at Talavlim. There is plan to provide essential facilities for 75 girls at the proposed Matruchhaya ‘ Balika Kalyan Ashram’ which is expected to cost approximately Rs 6 crore.
He sought contribution from the citizens in fulfilling this goal.
“Karya Visthar Sampark Abhiyan”, a drive to increase awareness on Matruchhaya and seek people’s participation has been planned from December 1 to 15. Around 225 well wishers have volunteered to participate in this Abhiyan.
He said, “We will seek donations from people towards the construction of the new building including rooms, prayer hall, kitchen etc during the Abhiyan.”
Those desirous in donating towards the cause may contact Dilip Desai or Matruchhaya office. The donations are exempted from the Income Tax under IT Act.
