Maulingem calls for resurvey of public lands

BICHOLIM: A unanimous resolution demanding resurvey of public lands in Maulingem was passed at a special gram sabha of Maulingem villagers held at Sateri Devasthan premise hall, on Saturday.

Maulingem village has land dispute since last many years. Villagers say that a landlord, with the help of land survey department, has grabbed the lands of villagers.
The villagers had earlier brought this issue before the notice of Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’souza who in turn had advised them to hold a special gram sabha and submit the minutes of the same to him.
Accordingly, the villagers today passed a resolution demanding with the State government to make them owners of the lands in Maulingem by passing a special Act thereby simultaneously cancelling the Act passed in the year 1972 which was in the favour of the landlord.
The villagers also demanded to make the resurvey of all the boundaries of land, rivers, comunidade lands, temples, graveyards and all the remaining public places. The villagers also demanded that they should be allotted house numbers once the new Act is passed.
