PANJIM: In a surprising move, the All India Congress Committee has appointed former Chief Minister Pratapsing Rane as the chairman of the party’s campaign committee replacing Mauvin Godinho.

Exactly a year ago Mauvin was appointed chairman of the campaign committee and the reason for the sudden change is not known.

The move, however, seems to have upset Mauvin, who says he was not even informed about the decision.

“I am surprised, I wasn’t even informed”, he said adding “…the post of campaign manager was forced upon me as I was very reluctant to take it up”.

“Although I reluctantly took it up, I think I was doing a fairly good job and suddenly now this decision comes and I have nothing more to say, it is for people to judge how things are decided”, he said.

Meanwhile, North Goa MP Francisco Sardinha has been appointed as the working president of the GPCC.

When contacted, GPCC President Subash Shirodkar said that the appointment of Sardinha was done as per his request.

“As I am contesting from Shiroda, I had requested the AICC to appoint a working president as I would not be able to devote full time for the party till elections”, he said.

On Rane being appointed chairman of campaign committee replacing Mauvin, he said, “the case is same with Mauvin as he too is contesting from Dabolim and will be busy”.

When pointed out that Rane too is contesting, he said, “well, Rane is a senior person and has seen more elections than any one of us and hence the party may have felt he is the right person to take us through elections”.
