PANJIM: In a heated discussion over shortage of water in Mormugao taluka, which covers Dabolim among four constituencies, local MLA Mauvin Godinho charged PWD Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar with bribery. He dared him to take action against corrupt officials.
“Who has stopped you from taking action against the officers (of PWD)? You don’t have the guts to take action because they are the same people (referring to officials involved in bribery during the erstwhile government) who are giving you money (bribe),” he alleged during the question hour, on Wednesday.
“You are only making speeches and telling stories since long… It is very easy to make a statement. The promise of providing potable water 24×7 has still not been fulfilled and instead, locals are facing problems due to your empty assurances.”
Godinho has repeatedly raised the acute potable water shortage problem in his constituency at every assembly session. The Minister conceded that Dabolim indeed suffers water shortfall by two-MLD. In the same breath, he assured the problem would end after JICA project is completed.
“We realised the old pipelines have no capacity for this purpose… JICA will solve the problem,” he assured.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar intervened, before the matter could fester, assuring Godinho that by May, raw water will be supplied to Zuari industries.
On the garbage issue, Parrikar alleged that municipalities were shying away from their responsibilities to curb the menace, while replying to a question on Sonsodo garbage treatment plant by Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco.
