PORVORIM: Sahitya Academy award winner, writer Damodar Mauzo, has been granted police protection, in connection with death threats, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the House on Friday.
Parrikar said that police protection to Mauzo was granted following information from the Union Home Ministry about a threat to his life. “We got a message from the Union Home Ministry that amongst those on the list, one is a Goan writer. Immediately, I directed police to grant police protection to Mauzo and the same is granted.”
The Chief Minister said this replying to a Zero Hour mention by Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco.
The MLA raised serious concern about the security of progressive thinker Mauzo, following a threat to his life in the light of revelation made by those arrested in the murder of activist-journalist Gauri Lankesh, who was gunned down on September 5, 2017.
Lourenco alleged that those arrested in the murder of Lankesh had associations with right-wing Hindu outfit Sanatan Saunstha, which has its head branch in Goa. The MLA demanded action against the Saunstha pointing their involvement to the Margao bomb blast, ten years ago.
