PANJIM: May 1 and May 2 didn’t just feel hot. These were the hottest days. In fact, the scorching 28.2 degree Celsius temperatures on those days beat the hottest days in last three years, according to the Indian Meteorological Observatory.
The temperature has gone down to 27.2 degree Celsius on Friday.
The Met Department recorded the previous highest temperatures of 27.7 degrees Celsius on May 10, 2011 and noted an identical reading on May 30, 2012. “The minimum temperature had not gone up so much during the last three years,” IMD Goa in-charge K V Singh, said.
“It’s basically because the night temperatures have gone up due to cloudy weather conditions and increased humidity in the atmosphere,” he explained.
Singh said that IMD keeps records of the highest maximum temperatures during the day and lowest minimum temperatures during the night. “But since the past three years, we have been keeping records of the minimum temperature on the higher side and maximum temperature on the lower side, as it helps compare the variations,” Singh said.
Meanwhile, he said that the state might receive some isolated showers. “Though this is a pre-monsoon month, the showers would hit only after May 20,” he said adding “there is no prediction till date on the onset of monsoons along Goa’.
