Alemaos-Edwin feud escalates
It was a weekend when the Alemaos were left fuming over the political developments right in their backyard. The father-daughter duo of Churchill-Valanka, could not digest their rival Edwinbab hosting a Benaulim block Congress meeting without inviting them. The Varca strongman thundered over the development and the echo was felt in neighbouring Karnataka – where GPCC chief Subhashbab was campaigning for party candidates there. The GPCC chief tried to assuage the hurt sentiments of the father-daughter duo by promising to convene a Congress meeting in Benaulim. The block meeting seemed to have taken the Alemaos completely by surprise; so much so, that the Alemaos were totally in the dark when Edwinbab held the meeting at Orlim, bordering Varca. Even Valankabai was under the impression that the block meeting was postponed to May end. It was only later that realisation dawned that Edwinbab and his band of Congress workers had the meeting. Incidentally, even as the GPCC chief tried to play down the episode, promising to call another meet in Benaulim, his district chief Subhash Faldessai honestly confirmed that the block meeting indeed took place at Orlim. Edwinbab’s supporters say that by holding the meeting without inviting Valankabai, he has avenged his humiliation by party leaders at the Dando grounds on the eve of 2012 polls, when he was not even invited on the dais while the Alemaos were allowed to hog the limelight. Caitubab might be certainly pleased with the feud in the Congress camp as the Alemaos have promised to strike back with a massive meeting. Wait and watch this space for the tug-of-war within the Congress in Benaulim’s fertile political grounds.
Vijai’s short-lived PSI transfer joy
Vijaibab appeared a happy man when Manoharbhai promised suspension of a Margao Police sub-inspector in connection with the gold ornaments recovery case. Not because, Vijay was happy that his stand vis-à-vis the case has found favour with the CM, but simply because he wanted to teach the PSI a lesson for stopping his adieus Carnival show during the carnival festivities.  But, his joy was short lived as he and his close aides soon realized that Manoharbhai has suspended a different police officer. He was apparently gunning for the PSI responsible for scuttling his show in front of hundreds of his supporters. But, the suspended PSI has got nothing to do with Vijai’s carnival festivities. Even senior police officials sympathized with the suspended PSI, saying he has done nothing wrong. And, questions are being asked whether the suspended PSI was made a scapegoat for the wrongdoings of someone else. Vijaibab may also suddenly realize that the PSI’s suspension has acquired communal overtones, with questions being raised over the suspension of a police officer from the minority community, while allowing the real culprit to go scot free. Meanwhile, Vijaibab’s dream lake project has run into rough weather. Farmers have hit the streets opposing the project. Farmers say they fail to understand and read Vijaibab’s mind. On one hand, they say the MLA is opposing shifting of Margao bus stand in the Madel fields, but is strongly rooting the lake project in the sprawling Fatorda fields overlooking the Fatorda stadium. Will the farmers allow Vijaibab to score a goal against a formidable defense led by his bete noire Dambab on the famous Fatorda grounds. Only time will tell.
Joaquim over treatment to Yuri
Joaquimbab roared and yelled from Mumbai on Sunday, blaming Cuncolim PI Raju Raut for trying to scuttle son Yuri’s address at the cricket finals at Cuncolim. He even took shots at the saffron dispensation headed by Manoharbhai for using police machinery to settle political scores. Joaquimbab’s anxiety and anger was understandable as son Yuri was to preside as the chief guest at the finals hosted by his close supporters. And, the Police officer, if one is to believe Joaquimbab, tried to scuttle not just the finals but Yuri’s address on the plea that his speech would trigger a law and order problem.
Joaquimbab apparently was eager to see that the cricket finals passed off without any untoward incident. For, the last time around when Joaquimbab was invited for a tiatr in Cuncolim, it ended in a fiasco, with his detractors stopping the tiatr midway, taking offense to a song directed at incumbent MLA Rajanbhai. And, the former Cuncolim MLA, who keeps postponing his return to his constituency, did not want any controversy to mar his return. But, while Joaquimbab could not control his anger over the Sunday episode, his detractors recalled how his cronies and aides had blocked Ribanbdar-based social activist Airesbab from addressing a meeting in Cuncolim when his writ ran large across Cuncolim before his downfall. They recalled how Airesbab and his supporters had to suffer the brunt when Joaquimbab’s supporters greeted them with eggs and abuses before sabotaging the meeting. The cops, Joaquimbab’s detractors now say, then had turned ablind eye to the hooliganism.
Mickky the event manager
Flamboyant Nuvem MLA Mickkybab’s second beach grind got off to a scintillating start in his home village Betalbatim on Thursday – confirming his grand arrival on Goa’s event management scene. This is his second beach grind and he intends to hold the third one in December. Event management firms from Goa and outside will certainly keep a tab on Mickkybab’s plans on event management. He claimed that tourism is dying in Goa and those on top have no plan in place to stem the rot. And, he says his events are only aimed at promoting tourism in Goa. Are there any takers for Mickybab’s claim? Well, his detractors have an answer. Guess, what?
