BICHOLIM: The Mayem-Vaiginim gram sabha discussed the illegalities on custodian property and asked the panchayat to inform the Bicholim deputy collector about the same.
In view of the recent survey of the houses on custodian property, the gram sabha demanded to know if the panchayat had knowledge of several illegalities in its jurisdiction.
Kashinath Mayekar informed that after the government’s announcement that it would provide sanads to the landowners, many people had illegally acquired land in Mayem and set up barbed wires around the same.
The villagers then sought to know if the panchayat had initiated action in this regard. They also demanded that the panchayat write to the deputy collector apprising him of the situation.
The issue of the proposed Mayem ground was also discussed. The local youth demanded that the proposed ground should at least be levelled.
The villagers also criticized the panchayat for not holding a special gram sabha to discuss the issue of the Regional Plan 2021.
Other issues discussed included pending projects, mobile towers and people giving Ayurvedic medicine in the village.
