BICHOLIM: The Mayem Bhoo Vimochan Nagrik Kruti Samiti on Sunday called upon Mayem locals to fight for their rights with the government the Melavli way and be ready even to die for the custodian rule cause.
The samiti, which is fighting a lone battle against custodian rule, agitated in front of the Mayem panchayat demanding freedom and giving them ownership right of their land.
Speaking on the occasion the secretary of the samiti, Rajesh Kalangutkar said that they would have to intensify their agitation as the government is delaying the process.
“We need to fight the Melavli way and only then the government would wake up and give us our rights. We should have that type of attitude, that type of mindset should be developed and we should be ready even to die for our freedom,” Kalangutkar told.
He told that if the issue of custodian is not resolved the next generation would blame them for their failure. “We all know that the law came into force in 2014 and now it is 2021 but nothing much has happened. It was only when we raised our voice that the government came with hearings but still we want to ask as to why this issue required seven years to be resolved?” he questioned.
The samiti president said that when this law came into existence not a single minister or MLA opposed to it and that the government should atleast inform as to why there is a delay in the process.
“There was a case when a star hotel was to be demolished and overnight the government came up with a law and that hotel was saved. If government can bring a lawyer from Delhi to Goa for Tarun Tejpal case why the government cannot solve this custodian issue?” Pednekar questioned.
Pednekar demanded a permanent officer to be appointed to solve this issue.
Several organizations from Mayem and surrounding areas expressed their support for the agitation.
