PANJIM: Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate and Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Naik on Monday filed their nomination papers for the respective posts, the elections for which are scheduled on Thursday, March 30.
Monserrate, who is the current Mayor has been nominated for the post for the third consecutive year while Naik has been nominated for the second successive year to the post of Deputy Mayor. Monserrate’s nomination was proposed by Councillor Shubham Chodankar and seconded by Asmita Kerkar while Councillor Narsinvha Morajkar and Santosh Surlikar proposed and seconded Naik’s nomination.
The last date for filing of nominations is Wednesday, March 29, and if required, elections will be held at 11 am, on March 30.
As per the CCP Act, the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor are to be elected every year. In the elections held in March 2021, the panel supported by Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate had swept the elections by winning 25 wards in the 30-member Corporation.
Soon after the declaration of election results, Rohit and Councillor Vasant Aghshikar were unanimously elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively. But in the next year, Aghshikar backed out and Sanjeev Naik was elected as Deputy Mayor.
