Mayor leads netizens in call for mandatory testing and quarantine for passengers

PANJIM: Corporation of City of Panaji Mayor Uday Madkaikar and other citizens of the State made a demand for compulsory quarantine and testing of domestic flights, which begin operation from Monday.

Taking to social media, Madkaikar writes that Home quarantine has become a joke, there is no one to monitor this people.

“…instead of compulsory sitting home they or family members are roaming every where, and now as per new advisory if travellers has to give just in writing that he will be quarantine for 14 days and if he doesn’t then it will be big disaster. CM has to rethink on this,” wrote the Mayor.

CCP Councillor Kishor Sastry wrote “Requesting Hon CM to make it compulsory for all people who are coming in to Goa through Road/Rail/Air should have travel permit issued by Goa Government and have to undergo covid test. If found negative then they have to be home quarantined for 14 days.”

Failing, all the hard work out in by our govt and the covid warrior’s till date will go in vain”, he says.

Abhishek Rajadhyaksha another individual on social media wrote that condition for all should be “Come To Goa But Stay In Quarantine for 14 Days” for everyone either positive or negative.

“Home quarantine for in disciplined citizens of our country does not work,” he says.

Another user, Arun Baba Naik also says home quarantine doesn’t work.

“It should be compulsory hotel quarantine for people ordinarily not resident in Goa. Resumption of airlines should be vigorously objected to by our government,” he adds.

Joaquim Vaz said, “Air travel passengers should be checked strictly before Lock down with Corona virus doctor certificate at the airport.”

Amogh Dalvi said, “all those people coming through rail/bus/air should have travel permit issued by our Goa Government and should compulsorily go through the Covid test and then 14 days home quarantine if tested negative . “All the efforts taken by our frontline workers for past 2 months have already gone for a toss. I request Hon CM Pramod Sawant and our dynamic Health minister Vishwajit P RANE to kindly look into this matter,” he says.

Another netizen Sudin Kamat says Compulsory Q in a hotel. Strict vigil. Till 14 days nobody can venture out. Rajiv Bhatkuly says trains should be stopped immediately.

“What was the use of lock down since March 22. Monsoons will get in more cases. Then it will be difficult to control the amount of rise in COVID-19 cases,” he asks.

Noted doctor Jagdish Kakodkar said that some demand that passengers shouldn’t pay, Government should pay.

“Means public money to be paid for private testing? If they have enough money for airfare, foreign work, public should foot their Bill’s?” he asks.
