PANJIM: The Gomantak Mazdoor Sangh has taken strong objection to the statement made by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane against Class IV employees of government hospitals.
In his statement to the media on Tuesday, the association’s General Secretary Puti Gaonkar has said that Class IV employees are doing all the work of their original designation whereas for sweeping and cleaning work, the contract is given to Eco Cleaning and Vijay amounting to crores of rupees. “In fact in the Government order, work of cleaning and sweeping has to be done through Human Resource Corporation of State Government. In the past Goa Medical College use to supply Goan food within Rs 4 to 6 crores per year but now the canteen contract is given for Rs 16 crores a year. The food supplied by the new contractor is not Goan food and he should inspect the quality now,” he alleged.
The employees hired by contractors are all outsiders, Gaonkar further claimed.
It may be recalled that Health Minister had threatened to terminate the services of multi-task employees of the Health Department after the Essential Services Maintenance Act (EDMA) is invoked.
Vishwajit had said on Monday that a file has been processed in view of the strike notice given by MTWs on Dec. 11. Rane had warned that strict action will be taken on those taking part in the strike called by the workers who are not happy with the job profile.
“The Class IV employees are working in spite of acute shortages of staff. Before making any statements against Class IV employee, Health Minister should study their working conditions and the work done by them,” the statement further reads.
“They (MTWs) are playing with the lives of the people. If they join the strike, they will lose their jobs,” the health minister had warned.
