Mandrem: Frustrated with the lack of basic amenities like drinking water supply and motorable roads, the citizens of Mandrem on Tuesday took local MLA Jit Arolkar to task, condemning him for celebrating festivals like Carnival and Shigmo on a grand scale, instead of utilizing these funds to provide them with better infrastructure. They accused him of using these celebrations to ‘mint more money’, while they face hardships due to the haphazard underground cabling works. The dusty roads lead to pollution, endangering the health of residents. The people in the constituency also struggle with acute water shortage forcing them to walk long distances to fetch potable water.
