PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday assured a delegation of Muslim community that the government will allow to bring meat from neighbouring Karnataka during the Eid-Al-Adha which falls on July 21.
A delegation of Muslims under All India Haj Committee Chairman Shaikh Jina Nabi met the Chief Minister and requested him to allow import of meat during Eid-Al-Adha.
After the meeting, Jina said that the Chief Minister has asked the Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services to write to his Karnataka counterpart to facilitate transportation of meat and has also instructed the police to ensure entry at the border check posts.
Jina said that sheep and goats will be sacrificed (Quarbani) in Goa, while only buffalo meat will be brought from neighbouring States besides, slaughtering of few animals at the Goa Meat Complex, Usgao.
Jina said that Eid-al-Adha is the second most important festival after Eid-Ul-Fitr and animals like goat, sheep and bulls are sacrificed on the day. He said that the meat is divided in three parts and one part is given to the poor.
“Eid-Al-Adha festival will be celebrated for three days from July 21 to 23 wherein animals will be sacrificed (Quarbani) and meat will be divided in three parts. We share the expenses of the sacrificed animal and ensure that a part of meat is given to the poor as an act of charity,” he said thanking the Chief Minister for providing them all help.
Jina said that the Eid-Al-Adha will be celebrated by strictly following the COVID-19 guidelines.
Besides, Jina, the other members of the delegation comprised BJP Minority Cell President Hyder Shah, Vice Presidents Maulavi Shaikh, Mehmood Makandar and Azim Khan, General Secretary Dr Asif Ali and representatives of the All Goa Muslim Jamaats Association.
