PANJIM: The ambitious universal Mediclaim scheme – Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva – will be implemented from July, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Health Francis D’Souza said on Friday.
The government intends to tie up with private and government hospitals from various States across the country that can provide health cover to Goans.
Speaking to the media, D’Souza said the scheme would be implemented from July with technical bids being opened. He said the scheme would provide health cover to those who have been residing in Goa for at least five years.
Directorate of Health Services in December last year released the revised tender documents for the scheme. The scheme was originally launched by  the former Congress-led government but with a lower insurance cover. The benefit under the scheme will be provided on a cashless basis to beneficiaries up to the limit of their annual coverage. The insurance cover will be up to 2.5 lakh per annum for a family of three or less members and up to 4 lakh for a family of four and more.
Earlier, the deputy chief minister said the government is making efforts to strengthen infrastructure in the health sector to ensure that better medical services are provided to the people. “Inauguration of computerized radiography system in TB hospital is evidence,” he claimed.
Speaking at the inauguration of Computerised Radiography System (CRS) for TB Hospital, he said the new CRS is a modern X-Ray processing system that will cater to the needs of the patients quickly apart from giving quality service.
The different functions in this system will ease work and will help save time.
