Medics meet SP, demand strict action against Dr Redkar’s assailants

To meet Chief Minister Parrikar today

MARGAO: Doctors from across the state gathered in Margao and met the Superintendent of Police demanding strict action against those involved in the alleged assault on Dr Babu Redkar.
The doctors will meet the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday.
Dr Babu Redkar along with Dr Shekhar Salkar, Dr Medha Salkar, Dr Suraj Prabhudessai, Dr Babita Prabhudessai and other doctors from top medical associations met the Superintendent of Police. They have expressed happiness over the prompt arrest of the accused McLean George and have demanded that his daughter, who is the prime accused in the alleged assault on Dr Redkar, be arrested soon.
Explaining the chronology of events that unfolded at his clinic at Carmona, Dr Babu Redkar said, “The woman and man had come to my clinic with an ailing woman. They came rushing to my clinic and told me that I have to attend to her. I urged them to get her inside, but they insisted that I come out and attend to her in their car. After I was told by the family members that her breathing had stopped, I advised them to admit her in a top hospital for her revival. But they insisted I check the patient. But by the time I could pick up my stethoscope and basic material, the car had left with the patient.”
Giving a detailed account of the April 10 incident, Dr Redkar said, “On Monday, McLean George and Genevieve George came to my clinic and barged into my examination room and abused me in filthy language. When I enquired why they were abusing me, George told me that he had brought his wife to my clinic after she suffered a heart attack while attending a retreat at Carmona and that I allegedly failed to attend to her. When I said that was not the case they were not satisfied; and his daughter punched me on my left eye.”
Dr Salkar has demanded that the accused be arrested and their bails be opposed vehemently by the police.
Dr Salkar called for appointing a patient redressal committee to clear the doubts of patients regarding treatment and other procedures”.
Clarifying the Herald’s Tuesday’s report, Dr Redkar said the deceased was not brought to his clinic for treating head injury but for heart attack. He further clarified that Dr Damodar Redkar, mentioned in the Herald report, is his son.
