VASCO: Speakers at the awareness meeting organised in Verna on Wednesday called upon the people to question the elected representatives and oppose these destructive projects planned in the State.
Goencho Ekvott convenor Creson Antao said, “Recently our group met Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to discuss about three mega projects. The CM agreed that the doubling of railway track is for coal transportation and that people should not oppose the high power transmission line.”
Antao informed that the group members explained to the CM that all three projects such as doubling of railway tracks, high transmission power line and the widening of national highway are interlinked to coal transportation and are not for the people’s benefit. Creson called upon the youth to join the movement and raise their voice against coal.
Goencho Avaaz co-convenor Capt Viriato Fernandes gave a power-point presentation on the coal-related project and the future plans of the crony capitalists which they plan to bring in Mormugao. In 2014, after Modi became Prime Minister, major draconian projects are being pushed by him.
“We have come on the roads in Mormugao to stop coal transportation. The road expansion, double tracking, river nationalisation, etc, are being done only to facilitate coal transportation”, he charged.
“It is a clear conspiracy to finish Goa. Prime Minister Narendra Modi needs to be stopped from bringing mega projects to Goa. State government is controlled by a private businessman. We have enough coal reserves in India but why coal is being imported from outside. MPT was a profit making body till 2013. In 2014 after Modi came to power MPT incurred losses and that time the berths at MPT were given to Adani,” he alleged.
Rama Kankonkar, an activist said, “Whenever there is a problem in the village then who should come forward? It is the elected representatives. But sadly today, MLAs are not serving the people but just providing lip service by stating that they are supporting the public.”
