PANJIM, OCT 14
The Goa Bachao Abhiyan (GBA) on Thursday warned the Government ending October 29, 2010, if appropriate notifications were not issued and published in the Official Gazette over some of their demands and the first meeting of the committee set up for review of TCP Act wasn’t held it would work to bring about a change in the Government.
Sabina Martins, once again in the memorandum submitted today, reiterated for notification of all eco-sensitive zones, at least the ones shown in draft RP 2021, like steep slopes, forested areas, paddy fields, mangroves, wetlands, lakes and ponds.
Martins said another demand for which GBA wants a notification to be issued was that of the VP3 status with 50 FAR in all villages that have opted for such a category. These two demands have to be met ending October 29, she stated.
GBA has also demanded to issue orders to the District Collectors and the TCP Department to enforce the court orders on infrastructure and call the first meeting of the committee set up for review of Goa TCP Act, 1974.
Sounding perturbed, many of the representatives who spoke today at the Azad Maidan, here, said enough notices have been given to the Government on the RP and now it was time people showed them the door at the next elections.
Martins said people have waited patiently for promises and assurances to be fulfilled. In the wake of failure of the Government to meet people’s promises they have now decided to re-launch their agitation, she asserted.
One of the demands of the GBA is the implementation of the High Court order prohibiting development of multi-dwelling units till the necessary infrastructure like roads, electricity, drainage, garbage disposal, etc., was put in place.
It also called for bringing about legislation and amendment of Acts for participatory planning and development, which was in consonance with Article 243 of the Constitution of India after the 73rd and 74th amendments.
