PORVORIM: The conversion of residential premises into a hotel and mobile towers operating without permission were among the issues discussed at the Penha da Franca Gram Sabha on Sunday.
A resident informed the Gram Sabha that owners of a house had converted their residential premises into hotel and added that the hotel had also changed its name. He sought to know if the panchayat had given permission to the hotel to change its name.
When Panchayat Secretary Vipin Korgaonker replied that the panchayat had not issued any permission to the hotel to change its name, the resident demanded that the panchayat should revoke the NOC given to the company running the hotel.
Another resident stated that the NOCs issued to three mobiles towers had expired in 2010 and sought to know if these companies had renewed their NOCs with the panchayat.
The panchayat secretary replied that since the companies operating the three mobile towers had not renewed their NOCs, the panchayat had directed them to dismantle the towers.
There were heated discussions regarding the Mandovi Fishermen Marketing Cooperative Society, with residents complaining that the panchayat did not benefit from the society which has been doing good business. They insisted that the panchayat should impose some tax on the society.
Deputy Sarpanch Gajanan Halarnkar assured that the matter will be placed before the panchyat body for discussion and necessary decision will be taken.
The issue of stray dogs, illegal constructions, beautification of gardens and cleaning of wells were also discussed at the Gram Sabha.
Earlier, Deputy Sarpanch Gajanan Halarnker welcomed the villagers, while Panchayat Secretary Vipin Korgaonker read out the minutes of the previous Gram Sabha.
