VASCO: A joint meeting between the various stakeholders, exporters and feeder operator was held to re-start the container service, at Mormugao Port Trust, here, on Monday.
“The feeder operator has asked for two days time to think on this issue and assured to revert back,” informed a source.
On Monday afternoon, several stakeholders doing business at the MPT took part in a joint meeting with the feeder operator. After the meet, a few informed that the MPT has offered discounts and incentives to any ship operator planning to start container service to Goa port.
According to a reliable source, the feeder operator was initially given impression that there will be 500 in and 500 out volume movement of containers, whereas the volume here is hardly 250 in and out. Considering such volume, the vessel to ply here will not be economical for the feeder operator.
Further, there is a need to have a crane and other machinery used for feeding. The feeder operator also said that he can allow feeder vessel to house in this port only for 24 hours.
“After all the discussion, the feeder operator assured the stakeholders that he will revert back on this matter in two days time,” the source added.
It may be recalled that MPT Chairman Rajiv Jalota had cleared the air over the stoppage of container service rumours and assured all the stakeholders to take all possible measures for retention of container service at the port, here.
