PERNEM: A joint meeting of different government departments for monsoon preparedness was held at Pernem on Tuesday.
Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar, Pernem Deputy Collector Deepak Vaigankar and Pernem Mamlatdar Anant Malik and officials of PWD, Electricity, Fire and Emergency Services and other concerned departments were present.
Deputy Collector Deepak Vaigankar said that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the pre-monsoon preparedness and measures to be taken by different departments. During this meeting, the departments including Electricity, Fire and Emergency Services and Forest department were asked to take necessary measures and directed them to remain vigil.
The Electricity Department is directed to clear or trim branches of trees falling on electricity wires while PWD is directed to repair the damaged road wherever required for smooth movement of traffic.
The Forest Department was also asked to bring to the notice of the disaster management team if there are any trees posing danger to human properties. MLA Arlekar said that in such cases, the Deputy Collector will give directions without waiting to obtain NOC from landlords to cut dangerous trees.
Officials of some of the departments pointed out shortfalls and requirements.
