The arrival of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has given an impetus to finding a solution to the mining crisis with a meeting on the issue scheduled next week.
Sanvordem MLA Deepak Pawaskar met Parrikar on Friday to discuss the mining crisis. Parrikar assured to call for a meeting of MLAs from the mining belt, the Advocate General and officials of Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) to discuss and work out immediate solution.
“I met the Chief Minister at around 3.30 p.m. We discussed on resumption of mining, protection to the mining workers who are being laid off by the companies and financial help to the truck owners,” Pawaskar told Herald.
“Chief Minister has said that he will call for the meeting on Monday or Tuesday to discuss the issue. Chief Minister is aware about the seriousness as well as the urgency of the matter,” the MGP MLA added.
Protesting mining dependents are also willing to meet the Chief Minister to put across their grievances with a demand for immediate resumption of iron ore activities that have been suspended since March 16. The dependents are on chain dharna across four places since June 11.
