PANJIM: The government in a bid to streamline mid-day meal scheme will hold taluka-wise meetings of parents alongwith the heads of the educational institutions beginning October 17. The education department meetings which will begin with talukas from North Goa, and will invite suggestions from parents on the mid-day meal menu and any other suggestions with regard to the mid-day meals. The first meeting will be held in Sattari taluka at Shri Hanuman Vidyalaya in Valpoi.
The Education Department is working together with the Goa Education Development Corporation to put the mid-day meal scheme in place. 
The taluka-wise meetings of heads of the educational institutions alongwith two parent representatives and the official of the Directorate of Education will be held from 17th to 31st October across 11 talukas of the state. The directorate expects the parents to monitor the mid-day meals along with the officers of the Directorate of food and Drugs Administration to be appointed in all the talukas. Presently the schools and the self-help groups have been divided on basis of panchayats and municipal areas to make it easier for the parents to monitor the meals.
The meetings in the talukas of Sattari, Bicholim, Pernem, Tiswadi, Mormugao, Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona will be held in two batches while meetings in Salcete, Bardez and Ponda will be held in three batches. Presently, the total strength of students availing the mid-day meal scheme is 1,93,757.
After conducting these meetings, the Directorate of Education will put across all the suggestions from the parents to the home science college to draft a suitable menu.
