PANJIM: The Goa government will organise mega camps for vaccination drive for senior citizens above 60 years and those between 45 and 59 years with co-morbidities, on March 15 and 16 at health centres across the State.
The drive will be held at 33 health centres under Directorate of Health Services and will continue further depending upon the need, states a press release by the Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation.
The government has asked all the `Swayampurna Mitras’ to create awareness and mobilise beneficiaries to nearby health centres through panchayat secretaries and ward panchayat members. `Swayampurna Mitras’ have been requested to contact sarpanchas, panchayat secretaries and ward members on Saturday, March 13, to make mega camps a grand success.
The government has also given list of health officers/medical officers in-charge of these mega camps.
Over 96 per cent Health Care Workers (HCW) have been vaccinated with first dose at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.
Of the estimated 4564 HCWs at GMC, more than 96.5 per cent have been vaccinated so far. A total of 4406 received first dose and 2150 took second dose so far taking the total of all first and second doses administered at GMC Hospital to 6556.
Administering of balance second doses for HCWs will commence from March 11, informed GMC Nodal Officer for COVID Vaccination Dr Jagadish Cacodkar.
Dr Nutan Dev, external monitor of WHO to oversee vaccination programme and report to the WHO visited the Manipal Vaccinations site at Dona Paula and was impressed with the flow of events.
According to information given by Dr Shekhar Salkar, Dr Dev also visited Hospital’s new site and appreciated it and also gave some tips.
Meanwhile, Serum Institute of India former director Fali Gheerjee and former Indian cricketer Mohinder Amarnath and his wife Dr Inderjit and his sister Dr Kamaljit took vaccine at the Manipal Hospital, Dona Paula.
