Mega fish festival at Navelim from Jan 31

PANJIM: Goa government is hosting a three-day national level Mega Fish Festival starting from January 31, at Navelim, to boost fishing and establish linkages between traditional and technology based fishing methods.

PANJIM: Goa government is hosting a three-day national level Mega Fish Festival starting from January 31, at Navelim, to boost fishing and establish linkages between traditional and technology based fishing methods. 
Fisheries Director Shamila Monteiro said the festival will display growing opportunities in the fisheries sector. “It will guide the young entrepreneurs to set up new business ventures. The department will assist them through technology transfer and financial assistance as a means of economic empowerment and employment generation,” she said. 
Several fishermen will participate at the mela with other sectors too participating at the three day festival ending February 2. Among the many stalls, one will sell variety of fresh fish. “It will benefit the fishermen about various technologies used for fishing and other related purposes and also create awareness about the industry,” Monteiro said. 
Minister for Fisheries Avertano Furtado has meanwhile stated that the mela will provide a platform bringing buyers and sellers in this sector under one roof, and for the investors to mobilise their resources in this sector.  Other special attractions during the three-day mela will include an aquarium gallery, knowledge exhibition, commercial stalls exhibiting various products and services, competitions for children and adults, entertainment programmes, food court serving variety of delicacies and live fish pond.
