VALPOI: Around 500 locals of Shel-Melauli on Sunday strongly opposed the government’s decision to sanction the biodiversity land for the IIT Goa project in the village.
The villagers from Shel Melauli village, Maigine, Murmune, Dhada and Paikul, who are opposing the IIT Goa project, gathered the project site.
All the locals unanimous decided to oppose the IIT project in Melauli.
They claimed that the Valpoi MLA is telling the panchas of the other panchayat and the people to support the IIT project in Melauli.
The Melauli villagers have requested the people of Sattari not to support IIT project in Melauli.
They informed the panchas of the other panchayats have been asked to get the almost 10,000 signatures of people from Valpoi constituency to support the IIT project in Melauli.
“These people will visit our village with the intention to hurt our sentiments, livelihood, our devotional places and the rich biodiversity. We will not keep quiet and will teach them a lesson,” Shashikant Savordekar, a villager said.
“If the government officials visit our village to inspect the proposed IIT project then we will not keep quiet. We will immediately act and condemn the proposed IIT in Melauli,” warned another villager Subham Shivolkar.
Meanwhile, the State government is ready to address all the issues of the villagers related to IIT project in Melauli. “I have spoken to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and people sentiments will be taken care of,” said Minister Vishwajit Rane.
