MARGAO: Calangute Comunidade members have objected to the elections for the new managing committee on January 27, stating that the polls cannot take place without reading minutes of the last general body meeting and confirmed by the present general body.
According to Regina Norton, Antonio de Souza and Clotildes Braganza, they had applied under RTI for copy of the minutes of the minutes along with other information such as the NOCs granted by the present Managing Committee of Comunidade to transfer lands to leaseholders/tenants, Resolution approved by the General Body of Calangute Comunidade to transfer Comunidade lands to government agency in public interest and the copy of the book of records of encroachments.
Interestingly, the Administrator of Comunidade had not issued the documents even though the members have approached the second Appellate authority.
The comunidade members state that the information was necessary before the election to confirm the NOCs of lease given to government agency in public interest and many other contentious issues.
They warned the affected people that any NOC or other decision could be rendered void in case the requisite procedures had not been followed.
“The new Managing Committee shall be responsible for all acts of omission and commission committed by the newly elected Managing Committee. We have no issues if the same committee is elected for second term, provided all the information sought is complied with. The Administrator is only a custodian of the Comunidade lands. He is the Chowkidar,” the members stated in a press note.
