Members object to decision by Loliem-Polem Comunidade to allocate land for Film City

MARGAO: Comunidade members have objected to the recent decision by the Loliem-Polem Comunidade body to allocate a land parcel in the village for the Entertainment Society of Goa’s (ESG) mega Film City project.

Alleging that the extraordinary Annual General Body (AGM) of Loliem-Polem Comunidade which resolved to grant of 250 acres (approx 10 lakh sq mtr) of land to ESG for Film City project as well as 494 acres (approximately 20 lakh sq mtr) of land to WAPCOS Ltd, a Government of India undertaking for setting up a ‘Wind Solar Hybrid Park’, is in violation of the Code of Comunidade, one of the Loliem communidade component, Architect Om Prabhugaonkar has written to Goa government seeking immediate revoking of the resolution.

He has also written to the Revenue Minister, Secretary (Revenue), Collector South, and Administrator of Communidade, seeking the revocation of resolutions and communication made to authorities for allocating land. He also called for declaring the AGM as null and void.

Incidentally, ESG has also recently given in-principle approval to the proposal from Loliem-Polem Communidade to set up the Film City Project in Communidade land.

Prabhugaonkar emphasied that this approval is not legally binding since the Comunidade meeting, on which the nod is based, is itself deemed illegal. He urged all, especially Comunidade members, to step forward and protect the land, particularly plateaus recognized as endemic biodiversity hotspots.

Highlighting the failure of the Comunidade to adhere to governing codes, Prabhugaonkar noted that the specific survey number earmarked for community use, including religious, social, cultural activities, is crucial for water supply, serving as a ground water reservoir.
