Mentally challenged woman allegedly raped

OLD GOA: A 40-year-old mentally-challenged woman from Chinchwada, Chimbel, was suspected to have been raped. A complaint in this regard was filed by her brother at the Old Goa police station on Wednesday.

According to PSI Sagun Sawant, the incident may have occurred between 7 – 8 pm on Tuesday, when the woman was barely 50 metres away from the house. When she returned home, her appearance raised suspicions among her family that something bad may have happened.
“The brother of the victim approached the police station and raised suspicion that her sister could have been raped,” said PSI Sagun Sawant, who is investigating the case.
Sawant also informed that the victim was sent for a check-up and the report would be available on Thursday. “The victim was also referred to the IPHB,” he said and added that the woman could not tell the police anything.
A case under section 376(2) (L) has been registered against unknown persons.
Sawant also said that since the victim is mentally disabled and cannot give a proper statement as to what happened to her, the police will have to wait for the medical examination report before proceeding.
