CALANGUTE: In a horrific incident reported in the State, a mentally challenged woman from West Bengal was allegedly “gang-raped” by six unidentified persons in a public toilet at Baga.
According to police sources, the woman had arrived in the State with her male friend from Karnataka who later deserted her. The woman claimed that she had no place and money and was forced to sleep in the open. Narrating the horrific ordeal which allegedly took place between February 18 and 20, the victim claimed that the accused persons took her to a public toilet at Baga and allegedly sexually assaulted her, gave her Rs 400 and hounded her away. The victim then boarded a bus to Panjim and was moving around in a dazed state.
According to Panjim Police, they received a call on February 22 that a mentally unstable woman was found walking in a dazed state in Panjim.
She was immediately shifted to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) at Bambolim where she underwent a counselling session.
It was at this session that she confessed to her counsellor that she was allegedly gang-raped by six persons in a public toilet at Baga.
The police later took her to the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim for forensic examination, the report of which is awaited.
However, the Calangute Police declined to comment further.
Meanwhile, the police said that there are four public toilets at Baga and they are likely to take the victim to the crime spot as part of investigation. The police are pinning hopes on CCTV footages if any to nab the accused.
