Merces circle to Vaddy road in bad shape

To provide relief from annual inundation during monsoon, the stretch of road was elevated in May this year by constructing two culverts

PANJIM: The recently constructed road from Dr Jack de Sequeira Junction to Vaddy-Merces is uneven and bumpy posing danger to two-wheeler riders.

The 300-metre-long road was elevated in May this year as every monsoon the road used to get submerged and was becoming dangerous to travel. In May, the PWD works division-II raised the height of the road by one-metre and completed it at a fast pace. But the full grout has not helped the motorists especially two-wheelers as the road has now become uneven and bumpy.

The locals said the PWD could have stabilised the road but till now the road is not useful for the motorists. They have demanded that the entire road be hot-mixed at the earliest.

When contacted, PWD junior engineer Gaurish Naik said that the road was raised with the construction of two culverts as it was getting submerged during monsoon. He said that due to the demand by the villagers it was covered with full grout and admitted that that the road has become uneven. Stating that the new road will take time to stabilise, he said that in the second stage it will be covered with bituminous macadam and hot-mixed before the onset of monsoon next year.
