PANJIM: One of the two charge sheets in the Merces double murder case is expected to be filed by next week.
Collem police is preparing a preliminary charge sheet, even as the Old Goa police will take a few more days to complete the probe. This case is being investigated by both police stations.
Sources said a preliminary charge sheet will be followed by a final charge sheet with deposition of additional witnesses and evidence, once the Old Goa police completes and submits its charge sheet before the Court.
Since the crime occurred at two places, within the jurisdiction of Old Goa and Collem police stations, two separate FIRs were registered and thus two separate charge-sheets will be filed before Sessions’ Court and Children’s Court.
The two accused – contractor Osban Fernandes and co-worker Ramesh Bhagwe are in jail for allegedly murdering labourer couple Shivaji Nayak and his wife Sujata and attempting to murder their two children, aged 6 and 4 years. They have been further remanded to 14 days judicial custody by the Children’s Court.
North SP Vishram Borkar and Collem Inspector Jivba Dalvi, investigating Sujata’s murder and attempted murder of their children, were not available for comments despite repeated attempts to contact them.
