PANJIM: Condemning the attack on Mumbai-based tourists in Merces, the Merces Manch Welfare Association (MMWA) has demanded that anti-social elements and history sheeters be kept under police radar.
“Anti-social elements have brought disgrace to the village of Merces, such anti-social history-sheeters should not be encouraged. Notorious characters and habitual offenders in the village should be on police radar and their activities should constantly be monitored, which will help avoid such incidents,” MMWA General Secretary Jose Carmino Joao said.
MMWA welcomed Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s statement that Police Inspectors will be held responsible for negligence. “We hope that Chief Minister will stand by his statement. We also demand that the Chief Minister issue notification on holding Inspectors responsible if such incidents repeat,” MMWA said.
The attack on the tourists invited the intervention of union ministers as the tourists from Maharashtra, including women and children, were attacked with sword and knife at the distance of just a kilometre from the State capital.
