Merces’ panch death is not suicide, but murder, argues Wilson before High Court

PANJIM: Wilson Godinho, who has been named in the FIR registered in the suicide of former Merces sarpanch and panch Prakash Naik, has argued before the High Court of Bombay at Goa that death of Naik was not suicide, but murdered.
During the hearing on the anticipatory bail plea, Godinho’s counsel argued that Naik was in fact murdered.
“Prakash Naik was murdered but somebody is colouring it as ‘suicide’. His sister Akshaya Govekar’s role is suspicious,” Godinho’s counsel argued.
One of the two named in the FIR filed in the case, Godinho, has challenged the District Court’s order rejecting his anticipatory bail application, before the High Court of Bombay at Goa. Naik’s sister Akshaya Goverkar on Monday had filed an intervention petition, which came up for hearing in the High Court on Wednesday.
Godinho and Tahir have been named in the FIR for abetment to suicide after which the former moved for anticipatory bail. Old Goa police initially registered the case as unnatural death but modified the FIR. The case was recently transferred to Crime Branch after the deceased’s family alleged a biased probe by Old Goa police.
