MAPUSA: The Mapusa Merchants’ Association on Monday met chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council and requested to design an SOP for opening the municipal market.

A delegation of the Association led by president Ashish Shirodkar met the Chairperson Shubhangi Vaigankar in her office and submitted the memorandum.

Shirodkar said while the municipal markets are shut, businesses outside the municipal markets are functioning which is creating confusion amongst the merchants whether the COVID infection spreads only in municipal markets and not outside.

Shirodkar asked the chairperson to design an SOP for merchants in Mapusa Market to follow and open the market.

He said, “They can provide service of one customer at a time to avoid the spread of virus. People crowd while buying things from vendors on road and not in shops.”

Shirodkar claimed that they need to open the shops because they have to pay the rent which also is a source of revenue for the municipality.
