MAPUSA: The Mapusa Merchant Association on Friday submitted a representation to Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, Chairperson Ryan Braganza and Chief Officer of Mapusa Municipal Council recommending measures to be taken in view of COVID-19 pandemic unlock 4.0 in the municipal market.
The Association in the representation suggested that the present demarcated spots for the vendors to sit and carry their business should continue as the vending zones and no new vending spot should be permitted in the municipal market. Also first preference should be given to the local vendors who come with locally grown produce at the vending spots.
The Association also requested the MMC not to permit any vending activity in and around the periphery of the municipal market as it will affect the business activity in the market.
The body further highlighted and demanded MMC to warn the pay parking contractor over the rude attitude of the pay parking fee collection staff and also suggested to make uniform compulsory to pay parking staff for immediate identification and to make them use whistle to alert the visitors.
The Association also demanded that the area around Shakumtala Fountain to be notified as no vending zone.
They also asked the MMC to give duplicate keys of gates installed in the market to nearby shops to be used in case of emergency and also requested MMC to allow the merchants to use the space in front of their shops to display their goods and not for vending purpose.
President Ashish Shirodkar stated that they have submitted representation with recommending measure in view of COVID-19 pandemic unlock 4.0 in larger public interest and benefit of the market and merchants.
