CURCHOREM: The Curchorem Police has registered an offence following a complaint by BJP Spokesman Dr Wilfred Mesquita, accusing the South Goa Congress candidate Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and other Congress leaders of violating the model Code of Conduct.
In his complaint, Dr Mesquita told Curchorem police that the incident took place between 5 pm and 10 pm on April 3, when Lourenco and other Congress leaders showed video footage in their public meeting near the railway station at Curchorem. The video footage included a part of the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s speech.
Dr Mesquita claimed that they had disobeyed the order duly promulgated and had violated the model code of conduct.
The Curchorem Police has registered the offence under Section 188 r/w 34 IPC and PSI Arjun Sangodkar is investigating the case.
Curchorem PI Ravindra Dessai said Dr Mesquita had filed a written complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer at Panjim and the CEO forwarded the complaint to the South Goa District Collector and Superintendent of Police.
“The South Goa SP sent the complaint copy to Curchorem police for necessary action at our end. The complaint states that permission was not given to Subhash Faldessai, election agent of Lourenco to screen the CD, but it was granted only to hold the election public meeting and use of sound system at the municipal stage near the railway station at Curchorem on April 3,” said PI Dessai.
“The case has been registered under Section 188 read with 34 IPC for disobeying the order of the Election Commission and violating the Model Code of Conduct. We have also asked the accused to prove if they had any permission to screen the CD,” informed PI Dessai.
