PANJIM: The summer has set in and Goans are already feeling the heat, however, Meteorological Department has said that the temperature in the State is similar to the yesteryears.
Speaking to Herald, Director of Goa Met Department, Dr K V Padgalwar said “The mean temperature in the State is almost similar compared to earlier years. Though due to certain weather conditions in parts of Karnataka, the temperatures did seem to have soared but that is not the case. Due to the strategic location of Goa, changes in the weather can be instant, however, no major shift is observed currently.”
When pointed out that social media is abuzz with weather warnings and precautions during sudden rise in temperature this summer, he said that the temperature trends are almost similar to the weather conditions faced by the State and hence there is no need to panic.
“Our department staff is monitoring the weather round-the-clock and any change that should lead to a warning forecast is communicated at least 5 hours in advance. There is no such warning that needs to be forecast”, Padgalwar added.
He stated that due to change in lifestyle, spending more time in air-conditioners, the perception of the people has changed and therefore the feeling of heat.
“When we move out of an air-conditioned space, its natural you will feel more hot because there is a sudden change in temperature”, he said.
