SANGUEM: It’s been months, the newly-constructed metal bridge across the Valshem River at Bhati, here, is yet to be inaugurated.
Except for the black topping of couple of metres of approach road on both sides, the bridge is ready but yet the authorities have failed to thrown open the bridge for the public.
The metal bridge was constructed after the Dongor-Bhati Bridge which was constructed during the Portuguese regime gave way during the monsoon last year forcing the villagers to undergo hardship.
In the absence of an alternate road, the village was cut off from other areas till a temporary arrangement was made to enable the villagers cross the river by putting metal plates across the collapsed bridge.
Presently, the villagers are dangerously crossing the river and commuting on their vehicles along the dried river patch.
However, once the monsoon sets in, the villagers claimed that they will be faced with extreme difficulties while crossing the river.
With less than a month for the monsoon arrival, the villagers have urged the authorities to thrown open the newly constructed bridge to public.
The villagers have also requested that the black topping of the small stretch of approach road on either side of the bridge be undertaken.
