PONDA: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party Marcaim MLA Ramkrishna Sudin Dhavalikar and party President Deepak Dhavalikar on Saturday claimed that the MGP would win all 17 Zilla Parishad seats contested by party with around 70 per cent vote share.
Sudin said, “The voting was hit as there was poor response from the voters. Voting is lowest as it is held at the wrong time, during COVID-19 pandemic and without consulting the stakeholders that is political parties and public. It is the political parties that create awareness and encourages the voters for voting. However, while fixing the date of elections, the political parties in the State were not consulted nor awareness was made, resulting to lower voting turn out.”
He also said that the MGP would win all 40 seats in next Assembly elections with the formation of block committees in all constituencies.
President Deepak said, “During the past five to eight years, the people have seen how the government failed on many fronts. They saw dirty politics. The MLAs were horse-traded by the BJP. More MLAs with the party does not mean it is a strong and stable party. The people also saw high handedness of the government and so the people would express their anger through ballot against the government.”
He said, “COVID-19 pandemic hit the elections badly. The people feared of corona virus spread and did not turn up to the expectation. Further, the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar declared 100 were tested positive due to marriage ceremony at the time of elections.”
“The elections should have held in January so that all the people could have participated. By the time the COVID cases would have been totally zero,” he added.
He said, “There is government’s vested interest behind the sudden declaration of elections date. The State Election Commission is just working for namesake.”
