PANJIM: Reacting to the possible merger of the RSS Goa Pranth with the Konkan Pranth, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) that contested the recent election in alliance partner with Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) said they have nothing to do with the proposed merger.
Speaking to the media, MGP President Pandurang (Deepak) Dhavalikar said Subhash Velingkar, the former Goa RSS chief who rebelled, was not directly involved in the party politics.
“We don’t have any problem with his (Velingkar’s) move, he was never associated with any political party and we have nothing to do with it,” Dhavalikar said.
Velingkar was instrumental in the formation of the GSM after splitting from the RSS to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party in Goa, protesting the government’s failure to stop grants to English medium primary schools. Velingkar, after being relieved from the post of Goa Sanghchalak by the RSS, had formed the Goa Prant with over 4000 its cadres with him. However, he had said that the Goa Prant would merge with the RSS after the Assembly elections.
MGP Supremo Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar said Velingkar is known for his principles. “What he is doing is as per what he had announced in September 2016, MGP has nothing to do with it,” he said.
Velingkar has said the decision of merger is yet to be taken and views of all cadres (Swayamsevak) would be considered before taking a final decision.
