PANJIM: Days after he joined the NCP, former PWD minister Churchill Alemao has threatened to quit the party if it forms an alliance with the MGP.
Alemao claimed that the MGP is more communal than BJP.
“NCP is secular party and that is the reason why I have joined this party. If my party makes an alliance with MGP I will resign and go,” Churchill told reporters in Panjim.
He said that alliance with MGP will not happen and it should not in future.
However, party president in Goa Jose Philip D’Souza said that NCP had never said they want an alliance with MGP whereas they wanted like-minded parties to come together.
Churchill said that like-minded people can be Congress, Goa Forward or Babush Monserrate but not MGP.
“People of Goa have not forgotten the move of MGP to merge with Maharashtra, their links with Sanatan, communal statements by their leaders on Diocesan-run schools,” he said.
He said that Congress party president in Goa Luizinho Faleiro, Goa desk in charge Digvijay Singh should rethink on the grand alliance.
“If they are not doing it then they will give chance to BJP to form the next government, which Goans don’t want”, he said.
Speaking about the demonetisation effects on festive season, D’Souza demanded the government should ensure that no community member should be affected due to currency shortage in the state.
“Weddings and marriages have already taken at hit in Goa, the Christmas and New Year celebrations should not affect due to lack of currency”, he added.
